The peregrine midge or fatheads (Contarinia pyrivora) can be locally present. Xenia, QTee and Lucas are sensitive, Conference clearly less so.
Usually, the decision as to whether control is necessary this year is based on the infestation last year.
There is another way: by using a pheromone trap you can make an assessment during the year itself as to whether pest control is necessary.
If there are fewer than a hundred, the expected damage is limited.
If the adhesive base is black with midges, then pest control is often necessary.
The peregal midge is very small, so you can't use this cap in a funnel trap. Use a delta trap with glue bottom.
If you have a high pressure, you can order extra glue bases. At the peak of the flight, a glue base can be full in 1 day.
The flight lasts on average 7-10 days and starts between Mouse Ear and Green Button.
Hang the trap as soon as the buttons slide. The trap may hang at a maximum height of 0.5 meters from the ground.
If you remove the trap from the orchard after flowering, it will last for several years.
