The pear gall midge (Contarinia pyrivora) can be locally present. Xenia, QTee, and Lucas are susceptible, Conference considerably less so.
Usually, the decision as to whether control is necessary this year is based on the previous year's infestation.
There is another way: by using a pheromone trap you can assess year-round whether pest control is necessary.
If there are fewer than a hundred, the expected damage is limited.
If the adhesive base is black with midges, then pest control is often necessary.
The pear gall midge is very small, so you can't use this cap in a funnel trap. Use a delta trap with a glue base.
If you have high pressure, it's best to order extra adhesive bases. At the peak of the flight, an adhesive base can fill up in a single day.
The flight lasts on average 7-10 days and starts between Mouse Ear and Green Button.
Hang the trap as soon as the buttons slide. The trap should hang no higher than 0.5 meters from the ground.
If you remove the trap from the orchard after flowering, it will last for several years.
